Japanese Sci-Fi Galaxy Interview

Excerpt from an interview with Mizugi Kenjitsu:

...Free Sex in the Hand was a success and failure.  It sold hand over 
fist, yet Akimoto was publicly shamed by attacks on him by conservative
groups for the novel's rampant nude illustrations and sexual innuendo. 
While they conformed to Japanese standards, most people felt Akimoto 
had went to far, unable to justify the 8 pages of pictures dedicated to
the sexual rebirth of Eldrad.   

Akimoto then saw it his duty to justify the sex, nudity, and lesbian
overtones in the books.  So he commanded that the next book would be 
set in a public bath, where nudity would be a matter of course, and 
women bathing each other allowing for the right amount of lesbian 
overtones. I knew he'd never shy away from where his heart really was.
If he could be a woman, he would, just for the free nudity and 
possibility of lesbian sex.

Akimoto also wanted to introduce another Doctor in an effort to 
increase the line’s sales.  It was his goal to have all the Doctor’s
 in a published book every publishing cycle.

So he chose "Galaxy Fun" as the story to translate.  This was the 
first Doctor Who, and a somewhat different character to that I had 
translated before.  The stories were much more sex oriented, making me 
wonder why Akimoto hadn’t started with his stories to translate in the 
first place.

The story featured a male/female alien race split, and it was rather 
simple to apply this to the divided baths of Japan.  The Doctor works 
to reunite the bathers, who in separation had become somewhat sex 
starved.  The cover was also the first to feature a Doctor...
